There can be no doubt that over the years the Copa Catalunya has been struggling to cause much interest. It usually just causes squabbling over dates and Barça have always sent relatively weak teams to compete. This year the tournament has been renamed as La Supercopa de Catalunya and Barça take on Espanyol at the Montilivi stadium in Girona tonight in the first edition under the new name (kick-off 9.30 pm). Luis Enrique has named thirteen first team players and seven of the best of Barça B’s youngsters for the game. Luis Suarez looks likely to start which should certainly make the match more interesting than usual, and Adriano Correira has received medical clearance and is also included in the squad.
